When I came with the idea to have a “Wellness Wednesday” section on my blog, I initially had the idea in mind to discuss my physical health: whether it be studios, supplements, or workouts to share. Due to recent life news, I started to reconsider that the major part of my wellness as whole has to due with my mental health. I have been making conscious efforts to better myself. I wanted to share with you some changes I have been making, and how it has been helping me.
Focus on the positive. You are in control of your own emotions. I found myself in the past too often dwelling on what I wasn’t happy about. What I’ve noticed is negativity only brings about more negativity. An image that has stuck with me was at church, our pastor had one of the men stand on a piece of wood atop of about a hundred red solo cups. He said the red cups represent negative thoughts we have about our selves. When you are thinking negatively, you are allowing yourself to be held up by negativity as a whole. That’s no way to live. He then slowly started to replace the red cups with blue cups, which represent thinking more positively. It won’t happen all at once, and it’s definitely something you have to practice. Just work on slowly replacing those negative feelings with positive ones.
Be OK with things not going as planned. I have always been a planner. Since I was five years old I had an idea on what I wanted to do as a career, when I wanted to be married, and when I wanted to start having kids. I am twenty-seven now and I can tell you that not one thing has gone as planned. I’m not knocking setting goals, but you have to learn that sometimes things won’t go your way. It’s okay. Some of the best things that have happened to me are from things I didn’t plan.
Give yourself more credit. This goes hand in hand with being more positive, but I’d really like to put an emphasis on giving yourself more credit. Too many times we focus on what we don’t have, when there are so many things you are accomplishing each and every day. When things don’t go my way I try to focus on all the things in my life that I am grateful for.
